A Proud Tradition

Coaching at ERCC

For many years our club membership included several club coaches who qualified with British Cycling. They delivered a range of Go-Ride courses and more advanced coaching, benefiting the members and the wider community.

We are now keen to revive this tradition and grow our coaching activities once again. Leading the way, Nigel Hoggart has recently completed the Introduction to Coaching – Cycling course, and is now qualified to plan and deliver rider-centred coaching sessions.

Reflecting on his experience, Nigel said:

“The course ran over six weeks, with e-learning modules lasting around three hours in total, alongside three online seminars where we explored different approaches to coaching. The final stage was a face-to-face Development Day, where we put our learning into practice.

The tutors assess your progress throughout, so the Development Day is very much about applying what you’ve learned rather than being tested. I really enjoyed the experience, especially the Development Day, and I came away feeling more confident and enthusiastic about coaching.”

Becoming a coach is a rewarding way to give something back to the sport, help riders of all ages develop their skills, and support the growth of cycling in our community.
