Goodbye to Les Buers

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our previous President of Essex Roads – Les Buers who died last Saturday morning. Les died peacefully and only two weeks shy of his 100th Birthday. Les was most certainly the longest known member of our club.

As a youngster Les saw action in WW2 where he served in France after D-Day. Earlier in the war he narrowly missed the results of a German bomb when it hit his offices, unfortunately many others were not so fortunate. In 1960 Les moved to Tye Common Road, Billericay with his wife Alma. Les was a keen cyclist and rode from Billericay to the London Electricity Board in London every working day.

Les helped marshal the Orchid Cycle Charity Rides, always standing in his favourite spot at the main crossroads in Goatsmoor Lane. However, Les was best known for his legendary tea making at Essex Roads club nights when held at the scout hall in Greens Farm Lane, Billericay.

In his latter years Les moved into a nursing home where he was diagnosed with dementia. Les is survived by his two daughters.

Here’s some nice photos of Les and friends.
